The sales spotlight is on cruise vacations October 17 to 23 during the new National Cruise Vacation Week. Formerly called Worlds Largest Cruise Night, the now week-long promotion being launched by Cruise Lines International Association is the highlight of new National Cruise Vacation Month which takes place throughout October. It also happens to be a slow time for travel agencies that sell cruise vacations so there’s that too.

What has been a one-night event in past years was expanded to a full week when feedback indicated one night was just not enough. Throughout the week, travel agencies will hold an array of sales events on major cruise lines, river cruises and small-ship sailings.

In other words, it’s a sales promotion.

Regardless of how we view the event though, there can be some good values to be had if we know what to look for and how to go about getting it. Here is a preview of some of the special offers coming up in October along with some tips to keep buyers safe.

AMA Waterways

Companion Flies Free offers on seven-night themed cruises from Amsterdam to Luxembourg, Nuremberg to Luxembourg, Vilshofen to Budapest and Budapest to Amsterdam. The promotion requires one airfare purchased at brochure rates and other restrictions apply.

Avalon Waterways

Savings of up to $1,000 per person on select dates and select 2012 European departures for clients of travel agencies featuring Avalon during NCVW. Bookings and deposits must be made between October 12 and November 29.

Celebrity Cruises

Consumers can vacation with an added perk, when booking with Celebrity Cruises during the National Cruise Vacation Week. The offer is for up to $150 in onboard credit on nearly every sailing offered from January 1, 2012-April 30, 2013.* Guests who book sailings 4 nights in length or longer will receive $50 onboard credit per inside or oceanview stateroom, $100 onboard credit per veranda stateroom, and $150 per Concierge Class stateroom, AquaClass stateroom or suite.

Costa Cruises

Costas participation is offering very special rates from $749 for select 10-night sailings.

Crystal Cruises

Its Crystal Cruises pleasure to provide a $100 per person savings incentive on most 2011-2012 departures for new bookings made during NCVW (October 1-31). The offer may be combined with 2-for-1 fares and Crystal Society Savings.

Cunard Line

Onboard credits of up to $300 per stateroom and two for one offers on select Feel Famous voyages of Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria, including Caribbean, transatlantic, Panama Canal, Hawaii, British Isles, Canada/New England itineraries and World Cruise segments.

MSC Cruises

Shipboard credits of up to $200 per stateroom for select Caribbean 2011/2012 sailings for all bookings deposited during National Cruise Vacation Week.

Oceania Cruises

Oceania will offer two for one cruise fares with free airfare and up to $3500 bonus savings per stateroom on select 2012 European voyages.

Paul Gauguin Cruises

Paul Gauguin joins NCVW with a $100 per person shipboard credit on 2012 sailings for new bookings made Oct 1 Nov 18. Two December (3, 10) sailings feature 50 percent savings plus free airfare from Los Angeles.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

A $100 per person ($200 per suite) shipboard credit valid for new reservations on 2011/ 2012 departures of seven nights or longer booked between October 1 and November 15. This may be combined with Regents standard offers – two for one, free air/shore excursions/luxury hotels.

SeaDream Yacht Club

SeaDream is providing travelers with a $100 onboard Spa credit for bookings made during the month October for any seven-night or longer 2011/1012 voyage. Special value fares offered on October Mediterranean sailings from Malaga to Tenerife and on November/December Caribbean roundtrip voyages from San Juan.

Silversea Cruises

Silver Seas Cruises joins CLIAs NCVW promotion with a $100 per person or $200 per suite savings on any 2011/2012 voyage (after Silver Savings pricing) and special savings up to 65 percent on select October/November 2011 sailings in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Far East and repositioning voyages, plus credits up to $500 per person.

Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection

An additional $100 per person savings during NCVW plus special cruise and airfare savings on select European itineraries such as October 2011 sailings on the Danube, Rhine, Moselle and Main rivers.

Why people choose sea cruises? And why once having visited cruise, it would be desirable to come back there again and again?
